Public Safety & Support for our Fire Company

Coming in at just over three quarters of a square mile, Media nonetheless has a complicated variety of streets with parks, homes, apartments, government buildings, schools, and businesses large and small. That’s why it is critically important that our first responders - police, fire, ambulance - understand our community’s unique terrain. And it is just as important that they know us, the people who live and work here.

“When every minute counts, do you really want your ambulance or fire truck coming from 10, 15, 20 miles away?” – Paul Robinson

We rely on the fast response times and professionalism provided by the Media Police Department, and the Media Fire & Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, which provides both fire and ambulance services as a non-profit organization deeply embedded in the history of our borough. Media borough has historically invested in these crucial, lifesaving services.

“One of the main things we were looking for was a town with its own police department. We pay taxes for a reason, and community-based police and fire are some of the best ways to get value from our taxes.” – Lisa Gelman

We all benefit from having our first responders based right here in Media Borough. We reject any measures that would decrease quality of service or prolong response times by outsourcing or regionalizing these services. It is especially important that our first responders know they have our support. When it comes to the safety of our residents, we believe local is better: this is one area where we should never cut corners.

“I feel safe in Media and I love how friendly and helpful the police are. I don’t have to worry about my safety the way I do when I leave the Borough. I don’t want that to change. Lives are at stake.” – Tray Herman

In addition to supporting our existing first responders, we will plan for Media’s long-term public safety needs, including mental health resources. Public safety needs will also change as global warming continues to change our climate. Of course, we will need to make sure that the Borough has enough funds to pay for these expected future needs.
